Large Jewellers disc cutting machine

Postby badboy6070bce » Wed Apr 25, 2012 10:04 am

Hi Guys,

Whilst looking thru some info re disc cutting I came across a little jewellers disc cutting machine (cuts up to 1 inch) and wondered if anybody knows if one can be had or made like., for 3 or 4 or 5 inch brass or ali discs and the appropiate ring?? :?:

That would be a wonderful cheap tool and so accurate and fast!! 8-)

I am still searching the web for this.

Just finishd cutting with the jewellers saw and my blade broke at the last inch and I put a new one in but went off slightly, well it will do for the backplate but having to true up the ring to get a better looking fit.

Might have to do it again GRRRRR!!!

Thanks everyone

It takes much more pressure to punch larger disks. A press or punch press is needed. I have punched disks with my 60 ton press but was not satisfied with the results. Punched metal parts look "punched"! The edges are not crisp. John Betts has another approach in his book Reels & Making Them. He cuts rough blanks with a hacksaw like I do but then spins them against a disk sander to make them round. Easy and fast.
